Cadell visited Cassis, a small port near Marseilles in 1923, staying at the Hotel Panorama which offered views of the white-washed houses along the waterfront. The town proved to be an attractive subject for Bunty and he returned again the following year with fellow-Colourist Peploe. That year, works by all four Colourists were exhibited together in Paris for the first time, at the Galerie Barbazanges in an exhibition titled 'Les Peintres de L'Ecosse Moderne'.
